statement of faith

we believe
in the Holy Scriptures as originally given by God, divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy; and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct

one God
eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

our Lord Jesus Christ
God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless human life, His divine miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, His mediatorial work, and His Personal return in power and glory

the Salvation
of lost and sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith apart from works, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit

the Holy Spirit
by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life, to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ

the Unity
of the Spirit of all true believers, the Church, the Body of Christ

the Resurrection
of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

our history

In May 1954, a small group of people met under a pecan tree in the yard of Mr. Harold Raines. On June 20, 1954, Tenth Street Baptist Church was organized with 41 charter members. They met in the home of Rev. Aron A. McKay, the church’s first pastor. July of 1954, the name was changed to Faith Baptist Church; in November, property was purchased by the church on South 11th Street. A building program was started and the members moved into their new building in March, 1955. Once again, in 1958, the church changed its name to Second Baptist Church. In early 1970, the church purchased property at the corner of East Barton & West McAuley, and entered a bond program to pay for the construction of a church building on the new property. The first building phase was completed by October. Four years later, new classrooms and a fellowship hall were added to the property. At this location, the church continued to grow; once again they found it necessary to find land to build a building large enough to for the growing membership.

In early 1997, Second Baptist Church was approached by a sister church, Richland Baptist, about the possibility of a merger of the two churches. This took place in May 1997. The name was once again changed to Cornerstone Baptist Church. The two congregations entered a building program to erect the present 2 story multi-purpose facility which consists of a worship center, kitchen, choir suite, and 21 classrooms. The building was built on the property owned by Richland Baptist. The old Richland building was converted into a fellowship hall, kitchen, 4 classrooms, & 3 storage rooms. All of this was finished and moved into in March 1999. In October 2016, our church began renovations of a portion of our former Richland Building into a Student Center for our growing Student Ministry.

Our worship center is located on the corner of Balfour and Clement in West Memphis. We invite you to join us for worship Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday nights and see the exciting new things happening at Cornerstone WM.
